A Return Home – Archival Art Print

$88.00 SGD

THE STORY

This piece is essentially a contemplation on the meaning of home.

A Jiang Shi is the corpse of a person who has passed on far from their ancestral home, and is reanimated by magic so that they may return and be put to rest, in the hope that their spirit does not grow home-sick.

A talisman with a sealing spell is usually placed on its forehead to control the Jiang Shi and prevent harm to others.

A representation of the Jiang Shi, using parts of what a house might be built with like wood and plaster, create the form of a semi-animate entity with a house-shaped crevice located at the solar plexus.

Inside, there is a ball of red thread, symbolising potentiality and an abundance of life - the qi/energy of the spirit, the life-force which inhabits the body.

Standing on delicate green, with a talisman on its forehead which now says "Home" in Chinese, the figure represented here is in a state of knowing that it is already home, wherever it is, within itself.
